Photo report of the Slow Sunday event in Bilbao, the first large-scale meditation in the city

Slow Sundays is a meditation event in emblematic places in the city, claiming that meditation is a possible practice in the urban environment. Making it accessible to experts and laymen to participate in unique sessions, since the location and the speaker are never repeated. It also offers the possibility of networking and connecting with other people since after the meditation there is a brunch thanks to the collaborating brands: Go Mate, Rituals, Anaconda Foods, Vitamin Well, Kom Vida Kombucha

In this edition the speaker was Irene Goikolea to the sound of Andrea Goikolea’s piano, all on the terrace of the Abba Euskadi Hotel, accommodated by Ikea Spaincushions.

The abba Euskalduna hotel is strategically located in the heart of Bilbao, near the emblematic Guggenheim Museum, making it an excellent option for exploring the city. With the San Mamés stadium right in front, the abba Euskalduna hotel is just 100 meters from a tram stop that connects directly to the city centre.

My task, to document all those experiences that the event offers. For this project I used two cameras, each equipped with a zoom lens. One had a 24-70mm equivalent lens, ideal for capturing space and taking group portraits. The other had a 70-200 mm equivalent lens, perfect for capturing details and isolating the speakers in their interventions. Working with two cameras allows me to be more agile, avoiding the need to constantly change lenses, and also gives me additional security, since if one camera fails, I can continue with the report without interruptions.

My cameras and lenses are Fujifilm brand, as they offer excellent image quality in relation to the weight and size of the equipment, which is crucial in this type of events where agility and discretion are essential. What I value most about my equipment is the quality of the sensor, which allows me to have exceptional control over the final color of the images, thanks to the analog film simulation modes.

In this report, the client was clear about the visual style he wanted: warm and pleasing images to the eye, which convey the sensations evoked by the meditation.

    Soki collaborates with brands of the caliber of Asus, JBL, Gillette, Revolut and LevelUp.We did several reports both outdoors and indoors to promote their products as well as several videos explaining how they use said products.

The restaurant is constantly evolving thanks to its three founders who are dynamic people who are constantly working to improve the image of the business.

        They needed photographs of the exterior of the premises for its correct location and to show how well connected it is thanks to having a tram stop nearby. They also needed photos of the offices they have to place on their website and portraits of the workers. For the exterior and interior photographs I used the equipment that I usually use in architecture and interior photography as well as the keys used in this photography. For portraits, however, we take advantage of the workstations to make a corporate-type portrait and then we take advantage of the environment and the outside light to make a brighter, more colorful and fresher portrait.

          They needed photos of the spaces available, as well as portraits of the company members, carrying out their functions and photos of some of their products. At Suministros Landaburu they have been dedicated to the distribution and storage of a wide variety and quantity of machinery and fastening elements for 20 years. Their objective is to offer solutions adapted to the needs of clients and they have a specialized team in continuous training on new applications. The atmosphere is familiar and the treatment that I saw with clients is exceptional. In these cases, taking portraits is very easy as well as capturing unique moments while they work. In this report I began by photographing the spaces for which I used the tools that I have as an architecture and interior photographer. Defining and describing space and showing how it connects. I used the same approach and the same photographic equipment when photographing the product, showing it by groups and types, as well as taking some closer shots of them. In this type of photography I usually use natural light, since it is what best shapes the shapes and colors, but in this case it was impossible to use it. I have to say that the artificial light they have installed is very neutral in terms of tone and did not generate harsh shadows, which made my work much easier when doing post-production. For the portraits I used a lens that helped me isolate the subjects and separate them from the background, since there were many elements in the store that, if in focus, would have generated a noisy image.

            Photo report for Crisis Design and El Singular of the charity event held for the associations Naizen, BaKuVa and CICBioGune. They needed photos of the event, the delivery of the money raised and the poster, t-shirt and merchandising designs made by Crisis Design. In this type of reports I always use two cameras to avoid having to change lenses, I use two that cover the entire range necessary for the type of photos required and that helps to avoid wasting time changing lenses or batteries. In this report, the challenge was in post-production since the place is quite dark and with strong contrasts, so work had to be done to counteract it and make the result bright and colorful. El Singular is a centrally located bar in Bilbao that specializes in and is a benchmark for craft beer in the hospitality industry. A modern, spacious and cozy bar. But the Singular offers much more. There you can taste magnificent pintxos and a wonderful menu based on generous portions, freshly cut ham or Crosta bread. And if you’re not a beer fan, it doesn’t matter. At Singular they also have a large selection of chosen wines.
